VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Volunteers are needed in many areas throughout the USGenWeb.  Volunteers are expected to follow our copyright policy. All projects are to follow USGenWeb Rules and many states have extra rules for their projects. Below are a few examples of how you can help.

Hosting a county, state or special project - You don't have to live in the county or state you are hosting! If the project you are interested in already has a coordinator you can contact them and see if they need help. You could also visit the USGenWeb Adoptables page to see what else may be available.

Offer to do lookups - Do you have an old book, a church or town history, or anything similar on the history of an area and its people? Can you look up records at your county courthouse or historical society? If you live in the area, would you consider taking a digital photo for other researchers?

Transcribe records - If you are willing to do some typing, contact the coordinator for a project you are interested in helping with. Some examples are: transcribing state and federal census images, plat maps, cemetery burials, land deeds, births, death and marriage records, voters' lists, military documents, history books, etc.
